“Perfect solitude in work consists in not alienating oneself from others but maintaining the divine presence”

Monastic life consists in searching for God in the footsteps of Christ. To achieve this end, the nun is not limited to a single activity or a single means: from liturgical to private prayer the nun should, use all as a means to achieve the holiness of her vocation, united work: intellectual and manual, as St. Benedict said: "at certain times the brothers should occupy themselves with manual labor and at certain times with spiritual reading". Whatever the type of work to be done, the contemplative will always keep in mind the main purpose: union with God.

St. Benedict, father of Western monasticism, had as his maxim "ora et labora" which means, “pray and work”.

In silence, always seeking to remain in union with the divine Spouse, contemplatives perform various tasks to maintain order in the house, and also dedicate some time to manual labor: sewing liturgical vestments, making handmade sweets and religious articles, and they also dedicate themselves to sacred art. We consider it of great importance to the contemplative life to tend to the cloister garden.

"An essential aspect of your poverty, therefore, will be to witness to the human value of work, carried out in freedom of spirit and restored to its nature as a means of sustenance and service" (Perfectae Caritatis).
